- They will be able to create scaled models of designs using 3D printing (or other suitable methods) for visualisation
- Physical models can be tested to check design features, proportions, and the overall look and scale of the design provides a prototype that serves as a communication tool for both design refinement and stakeholder presentation

A new extension is being proposed for a house, as shown. a. Explain the role of four professionals in contributing to the success of the extension. For each professional, you must make specific reference to features and annotations shown in the building drawings provided. - Construction trades can use drawings and surveys to plan the build and ensure the correct contractors are employed.
- They will ensure the correct position and size of the exterior wall
- Quantity surveyors can identify the quantity of items required for the build and the cost attached to these, eg the correct steel beams are ordered for the load-bearing walls, number of bricks required, number of sockets/switches, amount of insulation, etc
- Architects could plan the design and advise the client on the best design for their extension.
- They will ensure the correct size, materials, and compliance of the building to regulations, eg the cladding meets fire resistance standards
- Interior designers could advise on the best options for the design features within the inside of the building, eg position of sink, space between units, or position of lights or material/colour finishes
- Landscape architects could advise on the best way to plan the landscape around the extension.
- Boundaries can be established using the location plan to ensure the design does not encroach on neighbouring properties
- Building surveyors could advise on the condition of the current building and the best way to approach the extension.
- They will ensure the two buildings are integrated, eg the same quality of foundations is used, connection of water supply, drainage, and electrical supply are planned for
- They can advise whether or not the extension is suitable for the existing community/ environment/surrounding site, eg if the correct finish and materials are used or proximity to boundaries
- Structural engineers to get the position, size, strength, and weight-bearing parts/beams/ steelwork for the removal of the load-bearing partition, and the position and type of foundations.
- They specify joints between beams, walls and foundations
- Electrical engineers to ensure that the correct cabling, sockets, and fuses are used to meet regulations

- Regular reviews can be conducted to assess if items are on/off track and schedules revised to suit the build
- Allocation of resources as required for key tasks can be allocated at the right time to ensure the project remains on track to avoid incurring additional costs etc

- Can use the location plan and scale provided to work out the space available for the surrounding landscape, park area and houses.
- Can use the plan and developers requirements to determine types of materials, and work out labour costs based on available space/areas of coverage.
- Can see where trees are being removed/proposed so that they can plan the landscape accordingly.
- Can use the contours shown to establish the lay of the land and where land may need to built up/removed etc.
- Quantity surveyor could work out the amount of tarmac, asphalt and paving required for the roads/pavements using the scale and requirements provided.
- Once the amount is worked out the quantity surveyor could provide costings.
- For the play area the quantity surveyor could work out the amount of solid rubber required and how many children’s play items/fixtures and fittings etc. would be required. Costing could also be provided for this.
- Available plot space for each house and surroundings garden/land to work out man ours for trades such as fencers, landscapers etc.
- Road workers can use the location plan for the specification/location for the tarmac and asphalt/kerbs.
- Plumbers can use the location plan to identify position of mains drainage for connecting to houses for foul/waste water.
