7. Ad or Announcement

Design an 1. Advertisement, 2. Public Service Announcement, or 3. Custom Family Photo using GIMP (or Photoshop or some other application) to create a composite image.

For composite image examples see hybrid animals and also how a photoshop request can be taken seriously by James Fridman. You do not need to do the same type of thing as was done in class, but can be creative about the pieces of images that you want to combine.

If you choose GIMP and want to use it on your own computer, you can install it from this page. The process to extract an image using GIMP can be seen on this tutorial page.

Here are a few composite images made by CS 100 students in previous classes, though in previous semesters they only created the images and did not use them in an Ad, Announcement, or custom Family Photo.

Rubric:

  1. (5 points) Your creation should be stored in a Google doc. The last page of your document should include the original two or more images as well as the composite image, for a total of at least three images. Be sure your google doc permissions are set to be readable by anyone at UIC.

  2. (5 points) Images that have been cut have clean edges and integrate reasonably together.

  3. (5 points) The Ad, Public Service Announcement or Fake Family Photo is interesting, with the image strongly connected to the text.

  4. (5 points) Your document along with a screenshot of part of it is posted on your online portfolio site.

Up to 10 points of extra credit may be given if you do an outstanding job with subject matter, artistic composition, writing and/or technical details.

Turning it In:

To make sure the permissions are right, be sure you can access these images in incognito mode in your browser.
Turn in your Google doc by posting the link to it in the essays google form.
