Samuel was born to John and Sally Woodruff in 1833. He was drafted into service on 7 Oct 1862 at Bridgewater Twp, Williams Co., OH into the 38th Ohio infantry, Co. I and was discharged from service on 11 Aug 1863 at Winchester, TN. He later enlisted at Adrian MI into the 11th MI infantry, Co. G on 9 Feb 1865 and was mustered out on 16 Sep 1865 in Nashville, TN.
Samuel was a merchant most of his life, and was the father of Weldon and Hattie Woodruff. In the picture below, Samuel is seated on the right.

Ira Loomis Strong

Ira was born to Henry and Almina Strong in 1834. Ira enlisted at Reading, MI on 22 Aug 1862 into MI 1st light artillery, Battery I. I have copies of his letter home from when he was still at Fort Wayne in Detroit. Ira wrote about having to march to Pontiac for General Richardsons funeral after Gen. Richardson was killed at Antietam. Ira then was stationed at Camp Berry in Washinton DC. Ira fell ill, and died on 29 Jan 1863 at the Fairfax county courthouse from "inflammation of the lungs". Ira was shipped home and is buried in Gleason cemetery, just SW of Reading MI.
