Normal RTA Practice Saves

These practice saves can only be used on a homebrewed Switch, or a PC Switch emulator. They will not work on an unmodded Switch. The practice saves listed on this page only apply to Normal RTA. Breezy, Low Level, and suitless variations of Normal are not included at this time. If you wish to provide practice saves for other categories and routes, please let a wiki editor know.

These are recent as of July 5, 2024, and follow the route outlined in World Areas (Normal RTA guide). Always check this date on this page, and the date on the World Areas page, to make sure that the practice saves you're using match up with the latest route information in this wiki.

Be warned that it is your own responsibility to understand the repercussions of homebrewing your Switch, including potentially being banned from Nintendo's network, and that you are also not allowed to ask this community for help downloading or installing dumped game images whether on a homebrewed Switch or an emulator (even if those dumps are your own).

Homebrewed Switch instructions

Instructions to homebrew your Switch are outside the scope of this document. You will need to figure that part out yourself.

If your Switch is already homebrewed, you will need the save manager JKSV installed on your Switch, which you can find here: https://github.com/J-D-K/JKSV/releases Download the latest .nro file and put it on your homebrewed Switch's SD card inside the sd:/switch folder.

Download pidge's practice save pack here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/108UY0IgzRJgYAHAyf9oLsU8lhkvbRod-/view?usp=drive_link. Copy the JKSV folder (the folder itself, don't extract the contents) to the root of your Switch's SD card: sd:/JKSV

Now boot into your Switch, make sure SMRPG is closed (not just suspended), and go to the homebrew launcher. Launch JKSV.

Your user icon is selected by default Press A.

Highlight Super Mario RPG. Press A again.

A list of practice saves should appear on the right.

Before proceeding, you are recommended to press A on "New Backup" to create a backup of your existing save data. When prompted, name it whatever you want. If you don't do this, you can never recover your save data if you choose to load a practice save over it.

After you've made a backup of your save data, scroll through the list until you find the point in the game you want to practice. Press Y at this point to begin the process of using this save data for your game.

The app will ask you to confirm that you really want to do this. Press and hold A to confirm.

You'll need to hold it for at least 5 seconds. The app wants to make absolutely sure that you're 100% positive about overwriting your game data. If you let go before it finishes, it will cancel the operation altogether.

After the dialog disappears, exit the app with the Home button. Now go into SMRPG. You should see autosave data corresponding to the part of the game you chose from the list of backup saves.

If you want to go back later and restore your old save data, you can do this with the same steps. The app added your backup to its list of save files that you browsed when picking out a practice save, so you can find it in that list, press Y, hold A to confirm, and your save data will be back safe and sound.

Emulator instructions

Download pidge's practice save pack here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/108UY0IgzRJgYAHAyf9oLsU8lhkvbRod-/view?usp=drive_link and copy the JKSV folder to somewhere on your computer.

These save files are reported to work in Ryujinx.

From reddit:

"right click game in ryujinx -> open user save folder -> paste save file in folder that opens"
