1. Connect and Join data sources

Tableau can work on file types such as Microsoft Excel and Access or Text File
Tableau can also connect to server such as MySQL, Oracle and Microsoft SQL Server
Tableau allows to perform joining of tables (Inner, Left, Right, Full Outer, and Manual)
Typically numeric attributes will be parked under ‘Measures’ and character attributes as ‘Dimensions’
Tableau represents data differently on whether the field is discrete (blue), or continuous (green)
- Continuous field values are treated as an infinite range
- Discrete values are treated as finite. Generally, discrete fields add headers to the view.
