As a student leader of the pioneer batch of Befriending and Coaching Humanitarian (BACH) Association, Ryan is glad to see the numbers of volunteer increased from only 10 in 2014 to more than 100 in 2017. It prove that the efforts of all pioneer student leaders of the BACH Association have been paid off in managing and promoting our values.
The mission is to provide care and concern to all primary and secondary students through tutoring them and engaging them. Ryan and his peers helped the students with their academic and have planned activities for them on a weekly basis. They wanted to cultivate each student's potential to ensure that they will make a contribution to society in the future.
The initial difficulties that Ryan and his group faced are lacking members to cope with the overwhelming of students. Secondly, some of the primary students are super hyper, and it requires much energy and efforts to attend to them. Other difficulties include the lack of time to volunteer due to personal and academic commitments.
In conclusion, Ryan felt that the of the philosophy of "Head, Heart and Habit" approach is essential for every student at the Singapore University of Social Sciences. Nevertheless, Ryan believes that the "Heart" attribute is cultivated since young. However, he also believes that through volunteering service-learning, they can start to pick up the "Heart" attribute. In the future, we do need more leaders with the "Heart" attribute to shape Singapore into a better society.
