Tableau

This section is to showcase the ability of Ryan to select the right graph for the right types of data, and present them through dashboards such as Tableau.

Following, Ryan will be showing the benefits of each graph and present them through Tableau Dahboard:

1. One-way Frequency

• One-way Frequency displays categorical data in the form of frequency counts and/or relative frequencies
• For examples:
  • Count of Orders by Product Categories
  • Count of orders by Customer Types
  • Count of orders by Gender

2. Table Analysis

• Table Analysis allows us to do a quick tabulation of frequency counts of 2 Dimensions
• For example:
  • Number of Orders per Product Category by Order Types
  • Number of Orders by Order Types by Different Genders

3. Simple Bar

• Bar can show ranking and skewness / trend
• To compare measures across dimensions

4. Stack & Interleave Bar

• Stack & Interleave bar can show ranking and skewness / trend
• Use two or more variables

5. Pie Charts with calculated fields

• Chart is good to see distribution and proportion of each category to whole
• Calculated Field for Profit
  • Tableau -> Analysis -> Create Calculated Field

6. Line Graphs

• Line is good to showw trending over-time / time-series presentation
• If there are too many cateogires (columns), line will be easier to visual than bar

7. Scatterplot

• Scatterplot uses horiztonal and vertical axes to compare two variables. The first variable is usually independent while the second variable is dependent
• Scatterplot allows us to find the correlation between the two variables
• Scatterplot also allow us to identify outlier

8. Heat-map Chart

• Heat-map uses colours and sizes to compare up to two measures
• Heat-map provides user a visual approach to understanding the numeric values of the variable

9. Tree-map Chart

• Tree-map displays larger dimension sets through colour and sizes

10. Geospatial Chart

• Geospatial displays chart that has a geographic component to it

11. Dashboard

• A dashboard in Tableau is a collection of several views, letting users compare a variety of data simultaneously
• For instance, user can create a dashboard that displays all the views at once, rather than navigate to separate worksheets
