Upon finishing his reservist, Ryan went on to pursue his diploma at Republic Polytechnic in Business Application. Diploma in Business Application (DBA) aims to provide student knowledge in both business and technology skills to solve real-world business problems. Student can learn many types of IT applications that are applicable and relevant to the industry. With the combination of technology, business knowledge, and analysis techniques, the student is able to understand business requirements, propose and implement solutions using IT.
Ryan had obtained twice for Director’s Roll of Honour during his full-time studies at Republic Polytechnic. Through his hard work and passion for both business and technology, Ryan had graduated his Diploma in Business Application with Merit.
For his final-year project in Republic Polytechnic, Ryan was to lead a team of four members to implement and setting up an open-source ERP System for the small-medium enterprises (SME). ERP stands for “Enterprise-Resource Planning” System. The system aims to integrate all business functions across the company to a single computer system that can serve each specific needs.
The roles of Ryan were both the team leader and team co-ordinator. For instance, he will set the timeline for the project, the targets for each team member, the coordination with their supervisors, as well as providing assistance to each of his teammates. Specifically, Ryan was in-charged of Sales and Account Receivable modules for the system.
Nevertheless, Ryan and his team had achieved excellent results. For example, Ryan had obtained a distinction for his final-year project, and his team members had also received a satisfying result.

During his second year of studies, Ryan and his classmates decided to take part in a business case competition. The competition was to provide solutions to tackle the company concerns and helping them to manage the organisational changes. Although they are in the fourth position, Ryan felts that it was a good experience for him and his teammates to analyse the company profile and mange their expectations. More importantly, Ryan was able to foster a strong friendship within the team.
During the competition, Ryan and his team were able to deploy models such as SWOT, Maslow of Hierarchy, and Barrett’s Consciousness Model to analyze the situation of the company. After reviewing and evaluating the existing plan of the company, Ryan and his team proposed new solutions and initiatives to the company, such as:
