Fuel Filler Neck Replacement

Difficulty: 1/5

Time to install: 30 minutes

Tools Required: Socket set

Got a fuel smell coming from the trunk? A good bet is replacing the Fuel Filler Neck in the trunk. In many cases, just re-adjusting the hose clamps may fix the problem without cost. If that doesn't work, replacing the fuel filler neck is the next best bet. Make sure that you do this when the tank isn't full. You want the fuel tank low enough to ensure no fuel is in the hose itself.

Part is NC10-42-231 for 89-05 Miatas.

Remove the rear trunk carpeting. The carpeting is held down by plastic clips. Lift the center, circular pin with a fingernail or small screwdriver, then pull the whole clip out. Carefully remove the carpet.

Remove the trunk shield, there are three 10mm bolts as highlighted.

Once the shield is removed, the hoses are exposed.

Loosen the rear clamp.

Loosen the front clamp. Once both are loosened, remove the hose and replace.
