Sagging Glove Box Fix

Difficulty: 1/5

Time to install: 30 mins

Tools Required: Washers, Phillips Head Screwdriver, Round file or small rotary bit to widen a hole. Not shown in this tutorial, but a little bit of superglue or a star washer will help on the final step.

This is an easy fix and helps keep the car looking its best. For those people having a hard time grasping why the glovebox appears this way, see step one. As others have found, it's not necessarily a sagging glovebox, but what we really need to loosen a mounting point to make it look level.

Took no longer than 30 minutes, mostly from manually filing a hole, which you can do with a dremel bit for metal.

Hold a small rectangular piece of cardboard in your fingers as shown. Notice if you push the bottom right corner in, the upper left will move toward you and appear to "sink". This is exactly what is happening with the glove box. So the fix is to actually lower the bottom left corner of the glovebox frame (not the glovebox itself).

Below the glovebox, look on the left side. Remove the black screw. It lightly attaches to a plastic housing, so when replacing this screw do not screw it in tightly.

On the right side, you'll see the other black screw, and the extremely tight brass one. Only remove the black screw, as trying to remove the brass screw can lead to stripping the head!

The brass screw is almost impossible to remove. But it's not tight in the mount, it's tight against the metal bar. I found that after removing the black screws, I could gently pull down the left side, and then push the bar back and forth which helped unscrew the brass screw on it's own.

Remove the brass screw.

File the hole that's used for the brass screw. Lengthen it about 3mm towards the engine.

Here is the brass screw placed in the newly englarged hole. We'll try to screw the brass screw back in positioned as far back in this oval hole as possible.

I added 4 washers, which will be placed between the metal brace and the brass screw's original mounting point. If I had to do this again, I'd either glue the bottom washer to hold the brass screw mounting point, or use a star washer to lock the position in. Replace the brace and three screws, do not screw the black screws in tightly.
