Cam Position Sensor Replacement

Difficulty: 1/5

Time to install: 5 mins

Tools Required: 10mm Socket

The Cam Position Sensor plays a large part in determining when spark plugs should fire to ignite fuel. This is a particularly common failure on NBs and will often lead to poor spark, and bad idle characterized by a stuttering or bouncing tachometer or an intermittent rpm cutout while driving.

Shown is the new Cam Position Sensor. It runs about $80 USD from discount online shops. The part number for 1999-2000 NBs is ZJ10-18-221.

the sensor is located at the front of the engine on the passenger side of the valve cover.

Disconnect the wiring harness by gently pressing on the tab on the underside, then pull it off.

Use a 10mm socket to remove the sensor from the valve cover. Replace it with the new sensor, replace the bolt and plug the harness back in.
