Air Filter Replacement

Difficulty: 1/5

Easy breezey! Any new filter is better than an old one. But for the stock air boxes, I still like OEM best, though they are a little more expensive than FRAM. Also, as many Miata owners have surmised that air intakes provide little to no performance benefit, an expensive K&N filter isn't particularly needed.

Here's the airbox. If you can't tell from the pic, it's the big, plastic box on the diver's side of the engine. :-)

At the bottom left, near the crook of the air tube, there's a spring clip. Just pull it back to unlock it.

On the top left, there's another spring clip, pull it back too. On the other side of the air box, are just some plastic pegs and holes to line the airbox up. Just maneuver the box out of it's place, and now the airbox is totally free!

There's your air filter! Replace it with the new one, and reinstall the box as noted above. If it's not too dirty, you can just shake out the old one and tap out dirt and rocks that get caught in the deep filter grooves.
