Brake Grip and Button Installation

Difficulty: 1/5

Time to install: 30 mins

Tools Required: Allen Key set (depending on brake grip), Heat Gun or Blow Dryer (if needed to soften glue)

Contrary to other peoples' experiences, I did not heat up the brake grip or need to use vice grips. Heating the grip does make the adhesive gooey and pliable, but I found early morning cold the easiest. The adhesive seemed to lose its stick in the cold.

I found the cheapest brake buttons at FinishLinePerformance.com. Not only do they feature chrome buttons, but also silver buttons. I found the best deal on brake grips at CrazyRed.com. Voodoo Brake Grips in particular are getting more difficult to find nowadays.

Pull the brake handle up as far as possible.

Twist the break handle until the adhesive breaks loose. Some people have used a heat gun or hair dryer to soften the adhesive. In the cold air, I was able to do it by hand.

Ready to pull it off!

Remove the rubber ring that seats the bottom of the brake grip.

If you want to change the brake button, twist it off. Eventually it will come off!

Put the new one on!

Screw it back in, and make sure it's seated tightly and it slides back and forth easily.

The Voodoo grip uses a small allen head screw to keep it in place. Use the provided key to pull pull out the screw just enough so it can slide back over the brake grip's shaft.

With the new break grip in place, tighten down the fastening screw with the allen key.

All done! You may need to tighten up the fastening screw a few times over the course of a few days.
