Nikon D4s last firmware :
D4s New function: "Flash-on" (or how to efficiently trigger a remote camera with your camera only when necessary)
Associated with a Pocket-Wizard the D4s is able to trigger a remote camera ONLY when you need it (and not every time you shoot).
This allow you to forget about the remote-cameras' compact flash full of useless pictures, or to free your left hand of the Pocket-Wizard test button, or even let your good old handmade trigger button in your camera bag.
Of course this also allows you to use your flash with intermittency. You mainly trigger in ambient light and when needed you use the flash.
This is how to set the camera and use this function:
Menu Custom Setting > f Controls > f4 Assign Preview Button > Press > (Flash) Disable/Enable
Then you press the flash button (near the BKT button)
and in the same time roll the back thumb wheel until you get the "Flash Off" sign
Now, when you need to trigger the remote just press PV + The trigger button of your camera.
You can also assign the "Recall AF" lenses buttons to trigger the remote camera (menu f19)
then
Also, in F3 menu : Assign function / remote release only (allow FN button to trigger with the 10 pin plug)
Video :
- 1080p/50 full HD (1920x1080) 50fps
If your computer and the internet connexion to upload are fast enough, the 1080p/50 settings are by far the best you can use. We recommand to make a real computer test before, using for exemple 30 video sequences to edit a 2 minutes movie. In Movie Maker you have to prepare a new movie profile and cannot use Avidemux to compress. Check the Movie Maker page
- 720p/50 (1280x720) 50fps
If either your connexion or your PC is not fast enough use the classical 720p/50
- Sound is always "1" with or without external microphone. If the subject is in room and far away you can try the "4".
When you shoot turn the Live View selector to "video recording" and Use M program (all manual) if you can.
Speed priority or Aperture priority will sadly turn ISO to automatic.
