The study of stratification and inequality is at the heart of RC28. The research committee provides a home to researchers interested in understanding processes of stratification in society, their causes and consequences both at the micro (individual behaviors) and macro (social institutions) levels. Studies on a broad range of issues related to stratification and inequality are presented in our semiannual meetings, which are designed to promote vivid discussions and fruitful cooperation between members. These topics include sources and processes of stratification and inequality between groups in different institutions such as the family, the education system, the labor market and the state.
Our meetings provide an opportunity to present new ideas and findings, and to promote comparative studies and international cooperation in order to better understand the institutional bases of stratification. Graduate students as well as more established researchers are welcome to present their work, and to benefit from comments, suggestions and lively discussions that contribute to extend traditional views on stratification and inequality and to stimulate the emergence of novel ideas and research questions.
