Wina, 01 March 2012: Reporter: Hary Febriansyah Background:Current situation of the world involves many global challenges that impacts not only regionally but also globally. Challenges like climate challenges, lack of energy resources, and natural and man-made disaster are interrelated, consuming a lot of money, and hampering the development and productivity of countries, e.g., Fukushima case (earthquake, tsunami, nuclear disaster, and lost of energy supply). To overcome these challenges, we need multidisciplinary and multilateral approaches, involving multidisciplinary research institutes, universities, governments, and communities. The idea of earth resilience is how to preserve the earth from three types of global challenges Energy sustainability:Diversity and sustainability of energy source, no longer depend only on fossil fuel, suggesting on the using of hybrid fuel or renewable energy.Disaster resilience: Preparation, mitigation, and avoidance to different types of disaster.Food security: How to ensure the security of food of the world population despite of climate changes and natural disaster. How to distribute the logistic to the disaster area. The aims of this symposium are to collect and coordinate experts from multidisciplinary fields in attempt to manage and mitigate disaster in order to minimize the loss and number of victims: to share expertise, experience and knowledge in managing different types of disaster.
