TENURE TRACK

Tenure Track and BPS Upgradation

Reports have been submitted, and numerous actions have been taken to implement the suggestions. Scrutiny committee has been appointed, selection committee re-organized so that members are all local, and are available to come. Different types of cases require different treatment, and an urgent matter is one of promotions. A promotions committee has been formed to examine all pending cases and make recommendations. Also, a clear delineation of responsibilities is needed to allow faculty to make decisions on whether to be in research group or on the faculty. This issue will be discussed in detail in the upcoming faculty forum. Prior to this, a set of recommendations and suggestions will be circulated as a basis for discussions and deliberations.

There is a lot of unrest among junior faculty. Especially those who have a Ph.D. have not been given the ranks and promotions that is their due. Some of our best young people have already left because of this problem. Since tenure track appointments do not cost us anything, this change can be implemented quickly. A committee consisting of Idrees Khwaja and Khalid Mahmood was appointed to look into this problem. Later on, we also added Dr. Rizwan to represent the junior faculty with Ph.D.’s both to this group and also to the Financial Planning Committee. I hope to prepare a report on finances and share with all the faculty in the near future – the days of secrecy are over, and all decisions will be made in broad daylight, with an attempt to forge consensus. REPORT ON HOW TTS can be implement as soon as possible is awaited. Meanwhile, a request is being sent to HEC for extra budget to support the TTS positions we need to create for our own faculty, as well as new hires we need.
