Vision:

To develop a department as a world class centre of excellence in econometrics

Mission:

To produce highly skilled econometricians by imparting state of the art knowledge in econometric theory, statistical methods and their applications in diversified fields.

Objectives:

1. To provide theoretical knowledge: these include basic econometric theory, applied econometrics, time series analysis, financial econometrics and micro econometrics.

2. To teach application of theories: there is an emphasis on the application of econometrics and statistics, through exercises and seminars, to policy issues and empirical questions.

3. To provide skills to use Econometrics and Statistical packages.

4. Awareness about the different national and international sources of data.

Eligibility Criteria:

· M.A./M. Sc. in Econometrics and Statistics/Economics/Statistics/Mathematics or

· BS (4-year) in Economics/Statistics/Mathematics

· Minimum Grade and division will be followed as defined in “Admission, Registration and Examination Regulations for M. Phil. programmes”.

Grading Criteria:

· As per rules of PIDE defined in clause IV in “Admission, Registration and Examination Regulations for M. Phil programmes” will be followed.

Credit Hour Allocation:

The degree programme is designed, under the criteria defined by HEC and PIDE Admission, Registration and Examination Regulations 2008. The HEC requirement for M. Phil. prorgamme is a total of minimum 30 credit hours including 24 credit hours course work and six credit hours thesis. The PIDE has adopted 47 credit hours for M. Phil. programme, which are distributed as 26 credit hours for course work and 21 credit hours for thesis.

The first semester will provide rigorous training in the core subjects. In the second semester, students will take a two core courses and will complete a selection from a wide range of specialized courses in Econometrics. Based on student preferences and field specialization, each M. Phil. student after completion of second semester will be assigned supervisor under whose supervision the student will write M. Phil. thesis. The core and optional courses are as follows:
