I SURE DO LIKE THOSE CHRISTMAS COOKIES, SUGAR!
Yield: 3 dozen
2 ¼ C Flour
½ tsp cream of tartar
½ tsp baking soda
½ tsp salt
½ C shortening (can use all butter, instead)
½ C butter
½ C sugar
½ C powdered sugar
1 egg
1 ½ tsp vanilla
Sift flour, cream of tartar, baking soda and salt. Set aside. Cream shortening, butter and sugars. Stir in egg and vanilla. Add sifted ingredients and mix well. Can chill for an hour for easier handling. Roll out onto floured pastry cloth or other floured surface. Keep rolling pin floured to keep from sticking. Roll to 1/4-1/3 inch thickness. Cut out with cookie cutters and place on lightly greased baking sheet. Bake at 375 degrees for 6 to 8 minutes.
FROSTING:
1/2 cup butter
1/2 cup milk
1/2 teaspoon vanilla
4-6 cups powdered sugar
Boil butter and milk in microwave. Add sugar all at once and beat to desired consistency. Add vanilla. This frosting is a thinner, shinier frosting.
FLUFFY FROSTING:
Soften butter, add sugar, then gradually add milk to desired consistency.
SOUR CREAM FROSTING:
Soften butter, beat in 3-5 cups powdered sugar alternately with 1 cup sour cream.
