Essential Team Training Skills Checklist
The following skills should be known by Parvo Essential team volunteers (training should generally take 45 minutes):
Entering the Parvo ICU and knowing that the Ward is an Isolation Unit (Estimated time(ET): 1 minute)
Discussing the protocol on how to Scrub in and out (including proper Hand Washing). (ET: 5m)
ICU Tour (ET: 10m)
Dog Groups
Supply Locations
ICU Protocols (ET: 15m)
How to do laundry
How to clean dishes
How to throw away trash
How to clean an empty kennel
Proper cleaning/sanitizing
Sweeping
Mopping
Intro to Parvovirus (ET: 10m)
Other Comorbidities inside the ICU
Care Team Training Skill Checklist
The following skills should be known by Parvo Care team volunteers (training should generally take 1 hour 15 minutes):
Overview of Essential Volunteer Training (ET: 20m; see above)
Talking about the different Guidelines within the ICU (ET: 20m)
How to make Syringe Feed
How to: (ET: 20m)
Change Bedding
Give the dog(s) a new food bowl
Give the dog(s) a new water bowl
How to observe and document on a treatment sheet (ET: 5m)
How to restrain a dog if necessary (ET: 5m)
How to give Syringe Feed to a dog(s) (ET: 5m)
Only 1-5cc initially; wait to see if puppy holds it down
Medical Team Training Skill Checklist
The medical team training is more complex than the other trainings, generally taking 6 shifts to complete. The structure is as follows:
Day 1 - Introduction to Medical Treatment, Administration of Oral Medications, Administration of SQ Medications
Day 2 - Practice PO and SQ Treatments
Day 3 - Practice PO and SQ Treatments
Day 4 - IV Treatments
Day 5 - IV and SQ Practice, and Other Diseases
Day 6 - Practice, Efficiency, and Parvo Tests
