President

My feelings on being able to see the President of the United States in person, a thirty foot unobstructed view. First, let me explain. I am not a Republican nor is Reagan my favorite person. So, what kind of a reaction did I get when I was told the President and Nancy were going to be seeing the same play, at the same time, and same place with me? Elation! Surprised? Yes, for me, I looked almost right over my head and saw the emblem of the President of the United States hanging over the balcony. I got out of my seat to look ten feet down the aisle, and saw the President and Nancy walk to their seat, wave to the audience, and found myself applauding with the rest of those present. I sat down, tears welled up in my eyes, and I got a lump in my throat. What a country we live in! Here I am, second generation American (both sides), born and raised three thousand miles from D. C., and up until a short time ago, I never thought of ever traveling. To be in the presence of the President had never occurred to me. Yet, he represents the biggest office in our country, and because of this, he is to be respected by my standing ovation and response. What a great country we live in. We are all equal.
