Power Plant

Matt has a wife and two little tots. He is twenty eight, goes to church, likes cars, plays a guitar and sings Beetle songs. He is an intelligent, tall, heavy, strong, friendly person with a good sense of humor. He is an apprentice nuclear boiler mechanic. Most of the power plant where Matt works is under ground and close to the Pacific Ocean. Here's what Matt said about his job.

"The pipes that carry the water for cooling are as big around as a nickel. Hundreds of the open pipes line one end of the large walk-in chamber. The pipes get clogged up with small fish from the sea water being pumped through them. Every six months we go in the chamber to clean it. The heat and stink inside the tank is awful, but there is nothing we can do about that. We have to clean it out, and it takes several days to pull out the little bits and pieces of fish caught in the pipes.

"We have a guy named Chick who works with me and he is always complaining. About every six months somebody has to go inside the boiler to clean it. Chick has a weak stomach. He goes on, and on about how he can't stand the heat and the stink while we are cleaning. I get sick and tired of his complaining. One day I put some canned anchovies in my pocket and took them into the tank we were cleaning. I cleaned off some of the pipes real good and stuffed them with clean anchovies hanging half out. Then I called Chick and showed him how I could suck the fish out of the pipes with my mouth and eat them. I chewed on a fish with the tail hanging out the side of my mouth. Chick got sick and threw up all over the place, and I got even with him for all his complaining."

The next day we were talking together at work and thinking up good ideas. One guy came up with this idea. "Why not feed the tuna-fish mayonnaise?"
