Pack 89 Families,
I hope everyone has been able to keep their secret for Mom this weekend. Also, it was a great night to get a shave in, and no cut chins in the bargain! We have lots coming up in these last few weeks, let take a look.
1) Pack 89 Day Camp! (19-23 Jun) NEW INFO! Everyone should now know that we are putting on our own Day Camp. Linda Hughes has been hard at work putting together the program with help from Mr. Farmer and they have a GREAT program lined up. All we need now is YOU! I know how busy this time of year can get, baseball, soccer, end of school year, etc. But we only have 5 scouts signed up for camp. If we are to hold a camp, and ask our parents and others to volunteer (in addition to the demos Mrs. Hughes has lined up from the fire department, police department and Nightingale) we have to have a least 25 scouts signed up to participate. The deadline (established at our committee meeting last night) is May 30, our last meeting of the year. In addition we need adult volunteers. We need one more Staff person for the entire week (this can be covered by multiple people covering different days and times) and one Staff for 2 days. We also need more Den Walkers. The ratio is 4 scouts to one Den Walker. The final total will depend on how many scouts and siblings sign-up, but we really need your support. Sign-ups have been out and will continue to be at all of the meetings. Please make sure to sign-up!
We are collecting supplies for the camp and are looking for -- paper towel rolls, long tissue boxes and 2 liter bottles. Please bring them to the meetings as you collect them.
2) Bike Rodeo! (16 May – Primary, 23 May – Alt) NEW INFO! 6:30 pm start! This event is a lot of fun for the scouts and their siblings. Bring your bike and helmet; Mr. Champigny will give it a thorough check, we’ll pump up any sagging tires, and one of Suffolk’s Finest will go over some bike safety before putting you through your paces on our challenge course!
3) Den Meeting! (23 May) This will with either be our last regular Den Meeting of the year or our make-up day for the Bike Rodeo.
4) Pack Meeting! (31 May) 6:30 pm start. THIS IS THE LAST PACK MEETING OF THE YEAR and is the final opportunity to pass out the awards everyone has been working so hard to earn. As always, class A uniforms, no hats.
5) Pack Bridging and Family Campout! (3-4 June) The culmination of the whole scouting year, we’ll be recognizing all the scouts as they bridge up to their next rank, hosting a cook-out with pot-luck sides (sign-ups out soon), and finishing up the evening with a campfire and family camping. The whole family is welcome! All you really need is a tent, a sleeping bag, and a folding chair. Not ready for camping? Just come for the day and relax. Also, this is a great opportunity to get in a campout for the boys’ rank advancement as this technically falls in the next activity year for the boys’ activities. What a great way to end/begin the year! Look for the sign-up sheets – one for who is attending and camping over and one for the pot-luck sign-up. Also attached is a schedule and map (it is where Cub-O-Ree was held). Flyer attached.
6) Webelos Resident Camp (30 July – 3 Aug) We passed around a sign-up sheet last week and it will be out again over the next couple of weeks. This four night camping trip to Camp Powhatan in the mountains is a ton of fun, a great bonding experience for parents and scouts and very helpful for rank advancement. We will have a few more meetings discussing the event, but you DO NOT need to go out and buy a bunch of camping gear. The boys (and you) will all camp in BSA tents, the meals are provided, and the adventures pre-planned. All you’ll need are uniforms, clothes, toiletries, and bedding. Costs this year are $175 for a scout and $65 for a parent/adult, plus any spending money and gas charges. The theme for this year is Knights of the Round Table.
