Pack 89 Families,
Looks like everyone is moving full steam ahead in preparation for Blue & Gold. Great to see all of that enthusiasm! We have a full slate so here goes:
1) Pinewood Derby Car Clinic II! (10 Feb) NEW INFO! Our second Pinewood Derby clinic is this Saturday at GLEBE EPISCOPAL CHURCH from 1-4 p.m. This is your last chance to sculpt your cars and take advantage of Grandpa Jerry’s tools, scales and unparalleled Pinewood Derby expertise!
2) Methodist Church Scout Sunday (11 Feb) THIS SUNDAY! If you can spare a Sunday away from your home church, I urge you to attend Beech Grove United Methodist Church’s Scout Sunday (9:30 a.m. or 11 a.m. services). Beech Grove is our Charter Organization and is a great supporter of the Pack. Let’s show them how much we appreciate their support throughout the year. Sharpest Class A uniforms!
3) Pack Meeting! (13 Feb) 6:30 pm. Our first Pack Meeting of 2018 will be at Berea Christian Church – time to see what you all have learned! This is also Shrove Tuesday and Glebe Episcopal, our home away from Beech Grove, is hosting a pancake dinner from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. and it would be great if you could swing by and show your support and take care of dinner (and the dishes) all in one fell swoop!
4) Pact 89 Pinewood Derby! (17 Feb) Time to put all of that hard work to the test and see who is really the fastest. The races are held at Driver Elementary and we will be setting up in the afternoon (4 - 5:30 pm) of Feb 16 and we can always use an extra pair of hands. The Derby takes up most of the day on Saturday, but, each Den has specific race times – see below. Please see the Pinewood derby page for the rules.
5) Den Meeting! (20 Feb) Only two more meetings until Blue and Gold!
6) Den Meeting! (27 Feb) Final Den meeting before Blue and Gold, we are in the home stretch!
7) District Pinewood Derby! (3 Mar) Did you win at the Pack level! Then you are automatically eligible to race again the best the District has to offer! Come back to Driver Elementary School, your home turf, and show them how we do it! Cub Scouts must be present for their race. Details to follow.
8) Blue & Gold Banquet! (3 Mar) NEW INFO! This is the Academy Awards of Cub Scouting. This is where your son earns the rank he has been working so hard to achieve all year. We make it a REALLY BIG DEAL. The whole family is invited to Nansemond River High School for a night of fine dining, awards, and entertainment. Want to lend a hand? We’d love that! Come talk to me, Jeff or Vince Caravello about joining the Blue & Gold committee (I know they want to hear from you!). I will have a sign-up sheet out for attendance and a side dish. The cost is $6 per person with kids under 5 eating for free.
9) Arrow of Light Boards! (Every Tues until April) NEW INFO! Web IIs, I hope you have been studying … I know you are qualified, now’s the time to show it. You need to start scheduling your Arrow of Light Boards. Maximum is 3 per night. Sharp Class A uniform with neckerchief and slide and all your regalia. Impress Mr. Ward and the other members of the review board.
