Pack 89 Families,
We have officially started our meeting year. If you’re new to us, welcome to Pack 89! As you may have gathered from Cubmaster Ward Tuesday night, Pack 89 is a busy pack and we get going right away. So, here is what we have coming up (also attached is our calendar through December)!
1) Pack Show & Sells Nos. 1 & 2! (16 & 17 September) NEW INFO! THIS WEEKEND! Our first chance to get out and sell as a group will be at Lowe’s in Chesapeake. Our Popcorn Kickoff isn’t until next week, but we like to get going as fast as we can. There are three shifts available for each day. 9:30 a.m. – 12:20 p.m.; 12:20 p.m. – 3:10 p.m.; and 3:10 p.m. – 6:00 p.m. A maximum of four Scouts per shift and we need a responsible adult to agree to tend the cash box and track the inventory. Parents are expected to attend with their scout unless they have made express arrangements with another attending parent. Right now we have no one signed up (adult or scout) for either the midday or afternoon shifts on Saturday and still have some slots available on all three shifts on Sunday. Please e-mail me if you want to sign-up. First come first serve.
Scouts should be in their sharpest full Class A uniform and be eager to sell!
2) Popcorn Kick-off! (Next Week! 19 September) NEW INFO! We will have a short Den meeting and then have our annual Popcorn Kick-off. Our Kernel, Nickie Fogleman, has been hard at work already going to meetings and ordering our initial stock of popcorn for the only fundraiser we do all year. She’ll have lots of new info for us soon about the effort and how it benefits all of us in scouting. She’s lined up Show & Sells for nearly every weekend from now through October 27. Once again our Kernel is setting us up for a great year. Remember, half of the proceeds help the Pack Go and half help You Grow!
3) Committee Meeting! (21 September) NEW INFO! Want to see how the Pack functions behind the scenes? Think you’d like to lend a hand? We’d love to see you at the next Pack Committee Meeting on Thursday at 7:00 pm.
4) Pack Show & Sell #3! (24 September) NEW INFO! Navy Exchange for our third Show & Sell (9 am – 4 pm).
5) Pack Meeting! (26 September) 6:30 pm! NEW INFO! Did you attend Cub Scout Day Camp or Webelos Resident Camp? Did you wonder what happened to your awards? Well our first Pack Meeting of the year is where we recognize all of the work you put in over the summer! We make a big deal of recognizing your hard earned achievements and I cannot wait to see what you all were able to accomplish! Full Class A uniform (no hats) and best scout behavior…
6) Pack Show & Sells Nos. 4 & 5 (30 Sept and 1 Oct) NEW INFO! Another chance to sell some popcorn at Lowes on the weekend!
7) Den Meeting #3! (3 October) Hopefully the Dens are starting to get into a rhythm as you all work on your adventures.
8) Pack Show & Sell #6! (8 October) NEW INFO! Navy Exchange for our sixth Show & Sell (9 am – 4 pm).
NEW PARENTS, Our Welcome Letter, Parent’s Survival Guide and Photo Release form can be found in the Documents Link in the menu section under Parents Documents. The Survival Guide details how to get the uniforms – either from our Council Store (close, but small) or Tidewater Council (farther away but larger selection). Ordering from www.Scoutstuff.org is also good, but go big as most scout sizes run small. You want your scout’s uniform to last. The Photo Release Form allows Mr. Les (who takes a million photos of us every year) to post pictures of our events on the website and in the paper. That’s right, he has in an “in” with the Suffolk News Herald and you’ll probably see your boy in there sometime during his scouting career. Go to https://cubscoutpack89troop16.shutterfly.com/. Set up an account to see them all! I’ll have copies next week in case you can’t print them yourselves. A quick note on our Den Meetings. Den meetings are where the “work” of Cub Scouting gets done. This is where the boys learn new skills or practice those they already know. Remember to have Scouts bring their handbooks to every meeting so they can follow along or refer back to it while their leader teaches the lesson or demonstrates the skill. We’ll always let you know in advance of a venue or time change, but as a rule of thumb, all our den meetings are at Beech Grove at 7 pm unless there is a special event planned like Raingutter Regatta, the Halloween Party, or Beech Grove is unavailable; such as Lent for their Easter Egg Factory or floor cleaning. For the special events we will meet at 6:30 pm.
