Pack 89 Families,
Good meeting this week. We knocked out one more Arrow of Light Board and are down to the final one—and we would have finished that but for the flu! Here’s what we have coming up (also see the attached calendar).
1) Arrow of Light Boards! (Every Tues until April) We are down to the Last One! And just in the nick of time, next week is our Webelos IIs’ last meeting with us! Remember to keep up with the information covered as it will be very useful when you go for your Scout rank after bridging!
2) Parents’ Meeting! (28 Mar at Glebe) NEW INFO! This will take place in and around our Bottle Rocket building activities. Crazy, I know, but could not be avoided. Our District will not be hosting Day Camp this year and we want to discuss the options for the Pack and raise a possible unique solution for this year. Please make an effort to have one parent be available for this meeting.
3) Den Meeting! (28 Mar at Glebe) Bottle Rocket Build Night! Bottle Rocket night is one of the boys’ favorite activities. This night is the construction night. You should bring two 2-liter plastic soda bottles for each boy. We will supply the fins. If you have extra 2-liter bottles please bring them as well along with any extra hot glue guns (this will help prevent bottle necks for the tools). This is a workshop meeting to get everyone ready for launch night. Every boy should leave with a fully operational (minus the pressure system) rocket that will just need their own customization at home. This will also be the Wolverines’ last meeting with us as Webelos, we will miss the Wolverines but are excited for them as they move on to Boy Scouts! Also, thank you to Mrs. Sawchuk for a useful tip – Kroger is selling four 2 liter bottles for $0.88 each!
4) Arrow of Light Bridging! (1 Apr) Wolverines (and anyone interested) will be meeting at Johnson’s Garden Center to be awarded Cub Scouting’s highest award/rank – the Arrow of Light. This will be a great show and worthwhile culmination of the five years they’ve invested in scouting. Then they will Bridge over to their respective Troops and become Boy Scouts. Blackbird leaders and parents, if available, you may want to come by…
5) Den Meeting! (4 April at Glebe) Rocket Launch!!! As this is a special event, we need to start early to make the most of the daylight and maximize flight times. Please be at Glebe at 6:30 p.m. Moms and Dads, we need help loading payloads on launchers and filling fuel cells, so please come prepared to get WET! Also this is the last Den meeting before regular registration ends for Cub-O-Ree (see item 9 below). Wolverines, if you made a bottle rocket and want to launch it – come on by!
6) Beech Grove Mulching Party! (8 Apr) Time to spruce up our home church for Easter! Come out in your Class B tees and clothes you don’t mind getting grubby and help us spread some beautiful new mulch. We’ll do some weeding and general clean-up too. Many hands make light work – and the kids love this. The whole family is invited and if you can only come by for a while that is fine. If you have rakes, wheelbarrows, shovels or pitchforks, please bring them along. Start time is usually around 8 – 8:30 am or as soon as you can get there after that! We finish in the 11 – 12 timeframe.
7) No Meeting! (11 Apr) Enjoy your Spring Break!
8) Pack Meeting! (18 Apr) We know you have stayed busy earning awards—let’s see what ones! Class A uniforms, no hats. We are back at Beech Grove.
9) Colonial Trail Cub-O-Ree! (21-23 Apr) NEW INFO! If you like to camp, we have the event for you! This is your chance to come out and have a blast with scouts from Packs all over Suffolk and camp with your scout. This year’s theme is Gaming and the event will be held at Matanock Town (Lone Stare Lakes)! It should be a great time with lots of fun games and competitions for everyone. We will have a sign-up sheet out beginning next week. Pricing is $15 per scout and participating siblings and $8 for all others. Registrations after April 8 will be $10 extra. Attached is the Leaders and Parents Guide. Also, this being a local event, if you have to leave for a bit for a baseball game, etc., that is okay, just come on back and rejoin the fun when you are done! We hope you can make it!
10) Ruritan BBQ Chicken Dinner! (22 Apr) Can’t make the campout because you’re busy? I bet you’re too busy to cook too – so don’t! Let the Driver Ruritans do it for you with their amazing chicken dinners (see Flyer). The Driver Ruritans have supported the Cub Scouts, Girl Scouts, and are the Chartered Organization for Troop 16’s Boy Scouts. Their fund raisers flow right back to our units to keep the programs vibrant. All you need to do is Eat More Chicken! That’s easy to do since the Ruritans are experts at this.
11) Den Meeting! (25 Apr) Still planning, but you know it will be good.
