George Bishop No. 29 and 95

Thanks to Jerry Bishop, George's son for sending me this info and photos!  Jerry felt bad that he only had photos of the cars after they had wrecked! But we are glad you shared Jerry, for wrecks are a part of racing!

Jerry said that his Dad won the rookie of the year in 1965!

The 29 car  below, Daryl Hartsock and my Dad, George, shared driving duties.

One week dad would race it, one week Daryl would race. This wreck, I believe, was when dad was racing in Columbus Jct. The car went almost as high as the light tower and landed on its nose. He walked away from it unhurt.

The 95 car was my Dad's car.

He took it out for time trials at West Liberty and going into turn one, the A-frame broke and he went on a wild ride, barrel rolling several times. Dad broke his shoulder blade and several cuts and bruises. He was laying half way out of the window on some of the rolls. That one put him in the University of Iowa hospital for a while. Lucky to survive that one. He was out of action for a long time but still climbed back in a race car. He flipped going down the backstretch at West Liberty, I believe. He walked away from that one. That pretty much ended his career. One of his competitors that night swears he heard dad say when the car started wrecking..."here we go again"!

Here is a photo sent by Larry Gassaway.   Thank you Larry for sending this photo!

This was taken in 1967 at Col. Jct."
