Charlie Moffit No. 32 No. 51 and No. 81

Below, a photo from Gale Reed's collection, the No. 81 (looks like a Camaro?) Charlie drove. The Chevelle on the truck looks to have a matching paint job. Sources say that the 71 and 81 were both Larry Jenkin's cars. Charlie drove the 81 and Larry drove the 71.   This photo from 1972 and it looks like it was taken at Columbus Junction.

The photo above was taken at Davenport in 1963.

The photo below was taken at Tunis Speedway up by Waterloo. Ron Haines remembers

this car running MVSC also.  This car had a GMC straight 6 and was very fast, Charlie said it

would out corner other cars too.

Thanks to Candy Stolte for telling me about this car.  Candy says "Car Circle 51 with the ram on top was owned by Chuck (wagon) Doerres from Lone Tree, Iowa and driven by Charlie Moffit from Stanwood, Ia.

Candy says, "My Dad was Charlie Moffit and drove stock car for many years, up into the 1970's.  He had a bad accident at Columbus Jct. in the 60's and was burnt badly.  What happened was the car in front of him (driven by Mel Morris)  lost it's fuel tank and Dad ran over it and it blew up. He was burnt on his hands face and lower legs.  He drove at tracks in West Liberty, Davenport, East Moline, Tipton,  Cedar Rapids, and Waterloo."

Below is a newspaper clipping Candy Stolte, Charlie's daughter shared on History of Iowa Dirt Track racing facebook page.  She thinks this happened August 20, 1960 or 1961.  Candy said I " remember how afraid I was when I saw him wrapped like a mummy..All you could see were his eyes, two little holes for his nose and a slit for his mouth..left quit an impression on my mind!!"

It would even be neat to tell who all the guys are in the photo.  The fellow in the dark coveralls is Charlie Moffit. Chuck "Wagon" Daris, car owner, is to the left of Charlie.
