In this unit we will learn about forces, mass and motion and how they are related. We will do this using models, rockets, simulations, and interactive games.
Scroll down for unit assignments and exemplary past work samples.
Week 1 (May 1): We will get an introduction to this unit via the movie "October Sky". The Point: Describe how forces, mass and motion are related. (NGSS MS-PS2-2).
Week 2 (May 8): We will learn how to calculate velocity using toys and play with friction. We will delve into motion as we learn Newton's three laws of motion and launch stomp rockets. The Point: Describe how forces, mass and motion are related. (NGSS MS-PS2-2).
Week 3 (May 15): We will revisit Newton's laws, play with skydivers, and learn all about forces. The Point: Describe how forces, mass and motion are related. (NGSS MS-PS2-2).
Week 4 (May 22): We will build and run our rocket cars, and do a stomp rocket challenge. The Point: Describe how forces, mass and motion are related. (NGSS MS-PS2-2).
Week 5 (May 29): We finish our rocket challenges and conclude the unit with a test. The Point: Describe how forces, mass and motion are related. (NGSS MS-PS2-2).
