In this assignment, you will explore the size and scale of objects in our solar system.
Part 1: The Known Universe
Watch "The Known Universe." In your journal, explain how looking at far-distant galaxies is like looking back in time.
Observe NASA's Planets page. In your journal, write the distance from Earth to the sun.
Then, explore the Solar System Simulation. In your journal, write one thing you saw in the simulation that surprises you about our solar system.
Optional Extension: Watch the "Interplanet Janet" from Schoolhouse Rock.
Part 2: Scale Model of the Solar System
In your journal, predict what yard line Earth would be on if the Sun is on the goal line and Neptune is near the other end zone of a football field.
Follow the instructions in the Solar System Scale lesson to build a scale model of the solar system on the football field.
Part 3: Bill Nye Planets
Watch Bill Nye Planets (season 3, episode 1). While watching, please complete the Bill Nye Planets assignment sheet.
