Earth is in motion, including the ground beneath your feet.
Part 1: Geologic Processes Notes
Observe the labeled diagrams on pages 7 - 9 of the 'Geologic Overview + History of the Olympics'.
While looking at the images, in your journal, please write each picture heading and then summarize the picture and caption in your own words.
Optional: Here on p. 3 is a printable table to fill in.
Part 2: Geologic Processes Demonstrated
Observe and try out the demonstrations of plate tectonics and tectonic activity with pieces of foam.
Observe the demonstration of tectonic plates interacting with balls of different density in water.
Observe the Simple Subduction Simulation.
See a graded journal sample for these notes.
Part 3: Pangaea
Go to "File Explorer" / "This PC" / "Stevens Middle School Share" / "(Lieberman)" / "Geology" / "Plate Tectonics"
In the "Plate Tectonics" folder, click "Launch" and choose the "Intermediate" level.
Go directly to Unit 2 - "Continental Drift."
Read and complete the entire unit 2.
In your journal, record your scores for the following items:
An Idea Before its Time
Fit of the Continents
Fossil Evidence
Evidence from Rocks
Climate Evidence
The Great Debate
Quiz Score
If no access to the SMS Share Folder, click here to download the Pangaea simulation. Unzip the file and then follow steps 2-5 above.
Geologic Processes Extension 1 (*): Edible Geologic Processes
Come up with at least three ways that the geologic processes could be modeled using edible products.
For each way, write the recipe (materials and instructions) to get this done.
