While watching the PowerPoint, in your journal, write "Characteristics of Living Things" and list them.

Part 2: Cell Notes (Illustrated)
In your journal (on the left), copy this labeled diagram of a plant cell.

Part 3: Amoeba Challenge
The group will build an amoeba cell and then try to successfully move.
Guidelines:
Form the cell using every student - cell parts:
Cytoplasm: A group of students gathers close together.
Cell Membrane: A group of students faces outward and locks elbows.
Nucleus: A single student is held up in the air by the cytoplasm.
The cell needs to form, stay formed, and then move through the course.
Optional Extension: Undergo mitosis to split the cell and then 2 cells race.
Debrief Questions:
What was difficult and what was easy in the challenge?
Who gave directions, and how did that feel?
Who received directions, and how did that feel?
Part 4: Bill Nye Cells
Watch Bill Nye Cells (season 1, episode 17). While watching, complete the Bill Nye Cells assignment sheet. Do this with whiteboard markers on assignment sheets in sheet protectors.
