Dancing Sugar

Dancing Sugar Procedure

I. Blow up a balloon as full as possible.

II. Shake one tbs. of sugar on black paper.

III. Rub balloon on your head for 10 seconds.

IV. Hold the balloon with the area you rubbed on head facing toward the paper about 1” over the paper.

V. Observe and record in all columns of your summary table.

VI. Discussion.

Mosh Pit

Mosh Pit Procedure

I. Using the same balloon as “Dancing Sugar,” wipe off the balloon with a damp towel and dry.

II. Rub balloon on hair again for about 3- seconds.

III. Place hole punches on table and hover balloon over punches about 1-1.5” above.

IV. Move the balloon back and forth.

V. Wipe balloon down and repeat steps I-IV.

VI. Observe and record in all columns of your summary table.

VII. Discussion.

Balloon Enemies

Balloon Enemies Procedure

I. Blow up another balloon to be the same size as the one you used for Mosh Pit.

II. Rub both balloons on your head and put the sides that were rubbed gently facing each other a few cm apart.

III. Watch and feel for any pushing apart from the balloons.

IV. Observe and record in the “what did you observe” section of your summary table.

V. Discussion.

VI. Wipe down one balloon and repeat step II with the other balloon.

VII. Watch and feel for any attraction (pulling together) from the balloons.

VIII. Observe and record in all columns of your summary table.

IX. Discussion.

Wild Water Procedure

I. Take a rinsed-and-dried comb and rub it through wool for one minute.

II. Place comb sideways next to a thin, slowing running, room temp stream of water.

III. Observe and record in all columns of your summary table.

Rolling Pin

Rolling Pin Procedure

I. Take a rectangle of letter-sized paper and make a long tube.

II. Hold it together with a small amount of tape.

III. Take a rinsed-and-dried comb and rub it through wool for about a minute.

IV. Place comb sideways besides tube, about 1” from tube, and pull comb back from tube.

V. Observe and record in all columns of your summary table.

VI. Discussion.
