My initial preconceptions were related to how I was going to be able to do classes during the current circumstances. In general, I was pretty worried about the online lessons, because it's way different than going to schools in real life and doing my practices with actual students in their own classrooms. It was going to be my first time doing this type of remote teaching as well.
I can't say too much about my role as a Homeroom Teacher because I wasn't able to do any homeroom lessons. However, I can talk about my role as an English teacher. While preparing my intervention I followed the UDL, I tried to create a class that was dynamic and tried to encourage different skills in the students. That's why I included different activities with other focus during the lesson. It was hard to do a class online because the engagement between the teacher and the students it's way less than it would be in an offline class. But you have to work with that and keep going. I believe that my new beliefs about the role of an English teacher changed because of the current situation in schools and classes around the world. We faced a whole new challenge with the COVID-19 pandemic. Teachers and students had to adapt themselves to a new way of learning and it was really difficult for everyone. I now view the role of an English teacher as something more complicated. We don't only have to teach a subject, we also have to be aware of all the students' situations. How are they, what are they feeling, we have to ensure their wellness and that they can learn without trouble, in hopefully, a safe environment. Even when we are far away from eachother.
