I had two classes (1ero H and 2ndo J) but the experiences were the practically the same, for this reason the reflections are generalized for both.
Considering my previous English practices, I had to say that I'm quite disappointed with this experience. I could only be present in two English classes and I only did two interventions but with the same planning. Comparing it with previous years, it was lacking.
The only English classes that I watched didn't have any type of lesson. The school had this weird program where the students only had an English class every two weeks. Besides, they didn't even have specific content for their classes, like vocabulary, grammar structures, etc. For the intervention, the guide teacher just told me to do whatever I wanted and it was confusing for me. Therefore I just went to the MINEDUC webpage and searched for content related to the students' courses and created something from that info. I was supposed to have four different interventions, but because of a decision that the school where I was making my practice made, I had to do only two interventions but with the same planning. One of those interventions was also my supervision. In the end, the school finished the student's classes on November 27th and I didn't have the opportunity to meet with the students after those interventions again. I can simply say that I'm frustrated with the way that the classes developed. I feel like I didn't learn that much from this experience.
In general, I believe that the problem was with the way that the Liceo worked those final weeks. In my opinion, they completely gave up on the English classes and their content. Even my guide teacher told me that they were working in a completely different way than when they were having offline classes and they weren't prepared for this situation.
This practice was way different than any other practice that I ever had before. Just by the simple fact that I had to meet with the students online by using my computer. Here technology was an incredibly important tool, without it, I wouldn't have been able to even communicate with the guide teacher and the students of each class. This semester I was able to learn how to use different platforms online that help with the learning process. Not only I had to use different platforms to meet with the students during their online classes but I also had to look for other pages that would help with the activities during those online classes. In my case, I only had two interventions but during those, I had the opportunity to use more apps, such as Kahoot and youtube which were really helpful.
If I'm completely honest, I didn't have the opportunity to observe an actual English lesson with UDL planning and everything. I would have loved to see a class where the teacher would have taught new content and encouraged learning with a different focus and English skills, such as reading or listening. But I understand that I joined the classes of the Liceo late and that they were nearly finishing their semester so they didn't have much left to teach.
In my experience, this was a stressful practice. But not because of how much work I had to do or something like that, it was just because I didn't do that much in the Liceo. I couldn't have Homeroom lessons and that disappointed me. I was always thinking about how I didn't do enough stuff but it wasn't really my fault, I was doing what I could. Even when I asked for more work, they couldn't give me more responsibilities because there weren't more.
There's one thing that I appreciate though, is that the English teachers of the Liceo were very welcoming. They invited me to their reunions and asked me for my opinion in certain situations.
