Aim: Observing the guide teacher
This class was about pop culture from the 90's. The guide teacher explained to us that the students had to prepare presentations about certain topics that he gave classes before. All of these were not in the unit because it was related to the English Week, that they would be celebrating some weeks after.
We didn't see the teacher doing the class because he was mostly there watching the students presentating their works. He only gave feedback at the end of each presentation and asked questions to each member of each group. But, based on all that, I can say that the guide teacher always asked for respect to the students that were at the front of the class. He also maintained his voice level and controlled the whole class from his seat.
Aim: Getting Information from your class.
My partner and I asked our guide teacher about the class. He said that this grade has 38 students, according to him they were excelent students, which understand fast but that they were too noisy sometimes and it can lead to a bad behaviour, but overal he explained to us how the class worked and in what way we should do the activities with them.
We also went to school earlier because the teacher asked us the week before, he needed help with some students that were taking a test late. We basically arrive to the school two hours earlier and worked in the library, the guide teacher let us go earlier that day.
Aim: Observing a class in Progress.
The guide teacher started a new unit related to food with the students. He explained the whole concept and some key words so they could undertand better. It was about recipes, they saw words related to food and making recipes, like baking, knives, vegetables, etc. All of these information was from the book that the students have, so they had a guide while the teacher was speaking.
We were at the back of the class, listening to the teacher and watching the students as well. Sometimes the teacher would ask us for help or the students would talk to us.
Aim: Observing a class in Progress.
The teacher, according to the unit that they were seeing, he asked them for an activity related to resstaurants. The students had to create their own menu, with desserts, beverages and everything. In this class, the teacher gave the students some time so they could do it during the English class and ask if they had any doubt, because there were three teachers right there.
A lot of students asks us our opinions about their menu, they asked us about spelling or translations from Spanish to English. We had to walk around the whole classroom, all the time, answering everything. It was pretty fun actually. I like helping students with tasks like this one.
Aim: Plan and Execute your Classroom Project.
This class was really important to us because it was our first intervention and activity with the students. We prepared a whole class of 90 minutes about adjectives, we created a game and a worksheet as well as some power points to explain the subject. When we arrived at school, the guide teacher told us that all the teachers in the school had a meeting and asked us to start the class without him so we did it. It was a mess at the start because the students were really loud, but after some time and lots of screams we finally could start our class. It was difficult at first but I think that at the end it went smoothly. The guide teacher came back to the classroom around 45 minutes after we started the class, so he saw our last activity that was a game. The students like it and they played without problems.
Aim: Observing a class in Progress.
After the revolution that happened in Chile on October 19th, the school was completely different. The class had 38 students but only 15 came to classes. They had a shorter schedule and classes periods, which was good actually, for security reasons. The guide teacher wasn't sure if we could go to more classes so it was everything pretty chaotic to be honest. But during this class, the guide teacher asked us to check the menu that the students were working on weeks before. So we rated every single one with points so then the guide teacher would give them a mark. We used the whole hour in that. There were some menu that had a lot of creativity on it.
