Activities held in March and April

In March, some students took part in the 

Literacy and Information Support Unit

(LISU) Competition:

Create a scene from a book in a jar

All Library week and World Book Day activities were advertised on the school foyer monitor.

On Friday, 19th April, 2024, Year 9 Library Helpers distributed posters in prominent places in preparation for Library Week (22nd - 26th April) and World Book Day (23rd April) activities.

During the following week, other students brought posters related to reading and books to decorate their home class.

On Monday, 22nd April, 2024, the head of school, Fr Charles Sultana, distributed a complimentary copy of an educational activity book about Natura 2000 sites in Gozo to all Year 7 students, kindly given by Mrs. Nicoline Sagona, Senior Curator at Heritage Malta.

This activity was held as part of the Library week and the World Book Day.

On Monday, 22nd April, 2024, during history lesson, Gozitan historian and author Mr. Charles Bezzina spoke to our Year 10 History Option students about Gozo during the Second World War.

This talk was delivered on the occasion of  Library Week and World book day. All students were encouraged to read about a wide range of subjects.

During the library week, before the first lesson,

a storytelling session was held in each home class.

Teachers or students chose a short story

in Maltese or in English and

was read aloud to the students.

 Main Objective:

Listening to stories; Promoting reading for pleasure.

Guess the Reader Competition

 for all students

Students eagerly engaged in the

‘Guess the Reader’ activity,

radiating enthusiasm and anticipation

as they tried to identify the mystery readers.

Tuesday, 26th March 

As part of the Library week and the World Book Day activity, Year 9 students had an interesting and engaging talk, ‘Kieku kelli nikteb ktieb’ by past pupil Dr  George Cremona, PhD, UCL Institute of Education, about all the writing process of a book. 

Dr. Cremona told them that everyone has a unique story to tell; writing is a journey of creativity, discipline, and perseverance. Each word, sentence, and chapter is crafted with care and intention, fueled by passion and dedication, until the final manuscript emerges, ready to be shared with the world. During his talk, he also gave examples from his first volume ‘Bilkemm jitwemmnu!’ (publication from Merlin Publishers) where Cremona has delved into the lives of ordinary people from all over Malta and Gozo, bringing to the surface treasures in the form of exceptional, curious and captivating tales. 

Fr Charles Sultana, the head of school, presented a book about the history of the Sacred Heart Seminary, written by Monsignor Dr Joseph Bezzina to Gozitan author, Dr George Cremona. On the other end, Dr. Cremona gave a copy of his book to the school library.

On , Thursday, 25th April, Year 7 and 8 students were delighted to welcome renowned Mr Carmel G. Cauchi (author) and children’s books illustrator Mr Frank Schembri. At the end of their presentation, the students had the opportunity to have their books signed.

This activity was held as part of the Library week and the World Book Day.
