Grass
TEMPERA ON CANVAS 18 x 24 cm.
Mele saw grass being cut in the garden and he tried to paint it. It was really hard to do because this canvas has small dimensions; therefore he had to work with extra care. When the painting was almost finished his severe illness played him a sneaky trick: an involuntary movement of his arm erased everything. When he realized it he remained astonished watching his dirty sleeves and his canvas all levelled away. But he didn't get discouraged , he started again adding more green and gold. That's why this painting is so full of matter.
