Step 1

Is a turn and talk an #eduProtocol?

When do we use the turn and talk?

How long does the learning last?

What structure can we put in place to improve student dialog?

Consider 3 - 5 Sentence Frames that allow for:

- Clarification

- Inquiry

- Deepening Understanding

- Sharing Opinions

- Comparing and Contrasting

Sentence Frames

A) What I heard is…

B) What I heard is...and that makes me think/feel…

C) What I heard is...and I notice…

D) What I heard is...and I wonder…

E) Thank you for sharing

Introduce yourself to your elbow partner:

A) Hi, my name is

B) Hi, (fill in your partners name) my name is

    1. Read a paragraph
    2. Everyone use sentence frame B...respond in Today’s Meet (or Classroom)
    3. When you have completed, please go to yellow so that I know you are ready.

Next

    1. Turn and talk...Use B, C or D in response to a student’s post.
      1. Partner A respond (Using B, C, or D)
      2. Partner B respond (Using B, C, or D)
    2. Share out

Note: To set up a Today's Meet:

1. Goto TodaysMeet.com

2. No Login Required

3. Name your "Room"

4. Select how long to leave the room open

5. Click "Open Your Room"

Take it digital - Add a reply

First

    1. Watch our video
    2. Everyone use sentence frame B...respond in Classroom, Class Code: 2q1749o
    3. When you have completed you response, go to yellow...

Next

  1. Now that everyone has responded, find 3 responses to reply to using B, C or D
  2. When someone replies to your response, reply with E.

Step 4

Let's use our voice!

First

    1. Read a paragraph
    2. Everyone use sentence frame B...respond at Vocaroo.com
    3. When you have completed you response, click Save > Copy the URL > Paste in Classroom Class Code: 2q1749o

Next

  1. Now that everyone has responded, listen to one response, and reply (using comment feature in Classroom) using B, C or D
  2. When someone replies to your response, reply with E.
