Base ball slugfests and a parade by Bill Ohm
The Days of Yesterday at the History Center of Olmsted County sponsored by the Mechanical History Roundtable was the scene of a great parade and two slugfests in which aces abounded. The Apple Jacks Vintage Base Ball Team of La Crescent and the Roosters of Olmsted County slugged their way to a 21-12 Roosters victory in the first match. The match ended after only five and a half innings so that the base ball participants could ride in the event's annual parade. Riding in an open wagon the Jacks and Roosters paraded through the event area accompanied by many, many vintage tractors including several steam powered machines.
The second match started where the first one left off. Although tied 4-4 after three innings, the Apple Jacks eventually succumbed to the Roosters by a score of 11-7. That match went seven innings as agreed to by the captains before the match started.
Participating for the Jacks were Captain Joel "Hefty" Affeldt (pictured above), Jared "Bear" Alexander, Dave "Crash" Carlson, Jason "Kraken" Kluck, Scott "Roman" Pechacek, Evan "Tio Buck" Pechacek, Stephanie "Anxiety" (formerly "Stitch") Pechacek, Gary "Big Wease" Pericak and Jason "Weasel" Pericak.
Joan "Lady Joan" Ohm kept track of aces and Bill "Ho-hum" Ohm served as photographer.
