Apple Jacks Split Season Finale

The first vintage base ball game of AppleFest weekend featured a seesaw battle between the Highland Prairie Hayseeds and the hometown Apple Jacks.The Seeds scored three aces in the first. The Jacks only managed one. The story was reversed in the second with Highland Prairie only scoring one but La Crescent scoring three. The Jacks went ahead 7-4 with a run in the third and two more in the fourth. The Hayseeds came back to trail 7-6 after five. The Jacks added to their lead to go up 9-6 heading to the seventh. In that inning the Hayseeds tallied 4 aces to take a 10-9 lead. Entering the bottom of the ninth the score was knotted at 11-11. With one out and runners on first and second, Kevin "Hurricane" Knerzer stroked a one bound sacrifice fly to right with Samuel "Roundabout" Deetz scoring all the way from second. Final: Jacks 12 - Hayseeds 11.

In the second game, the Apple Jacks succumbed to the 91 degree heat and the Roosters of Olmsted County by a score of 4-0.

Leading the day's hit parade was Roundabout. He reach base safely eight times. Mike "Mickey" Jaquette and Jason "Weasel" Pericak were on six times. On base five times were Hurricane and Scott "Roman" Pechacek. Gary "Big Wease" Pericak, Bob "Two Bit" Spencer and Joel "Hefty" Affeldt were on four times each. Steve "Whitey" Geronime and Jim "Preacher" Cumming were each on base twice.
