I published The New Kid a while back. In case you don't remember what this book was about here is the synopsis:

Neha has just returned from a long vacation. Her friends give her a warm welcome. But in the time she was gone, a new family has moved in to the housing society and her friends have issues with the new kid. Neha wants to be friendly with him, but will her old friends tolerate that, or will she lose her old friends in making a new one? Read on to find out.

I looked around for quite some time, but I could not find suitable illustrations that would capture the emotions in this story. My usual sources, openclipart (openclipart is a wonderful community project of free public domain clipart images) and photographs failed me this time.

Finally I approached Deepa Nath. I was so thrilled when Deepa, one of the the artists featured in Tania Visits An Art Exhibition, enthusiastically agreed to do the illustrations. I love her charcoal sketches, one of which, you will find in Tania Visits An Art Exhibition. The subject of the book is dear to Deepa, and she has done a fantastic job. Do check out this new and improved version.

Finally, Deepa's artistic talents are not limited to paper. She is also an amazing food artist. If you live in Bangalore, check out her bakery page on facebook to order her baked beauties that cater to both simple and exotic palettes.

You will also find the book listed here, among the other short stories I have written, including the recently published story, The Mysterious Uncle Uh-Oh, illustrated by an 8 year old girl named Mishti Shah. The paperback for this one is available here.
