(The Middle Legendary Kings)

 

Kaika Wakayamatoneko Hikoōbibi no Mikoto, Ninth Emperor of Japan and Great King of Yamato. He ruled from the Palace of Izakawa in Kasuga. He married (first) Taniwa no Takanuhime, daughter of Taniwa no Yugori the Great Agata-Nushi of Taniwa. He married (second) his step-mother, Igakashikome no Mikoto, his Empress, daughter of Utsushikoo no Mikoto, ancestor of the Omi of Hozumi or Ōhesoki no Mikoto, Ancesetor of the Mononobe Clan. He married (third) Oketsuhime no Mikoto, younger sister of Hikokunioketsu no Mikoto, ancestor of the Omi of Wani. He married (fourth) Washihime, daughter of Kazuraki no Tarumi. He died at the age of 63 (Kojiki) or 115 (Nihonshiki) years and was buried in Sakamoto at Izakawa in Kasuga. He had issue:

Sujin Mimakiribikoinie no Mikoto, Tenth Emperor of Japan and Great King of Yamato. He ruled from the Palace of Mizugaki in Shiki. He is called the First Land Ruling Emperor and  his the first reign for which stories are recorded; he averted a great plague or rebellion by appointing a High Priest to worship Ōmononushi no Kami, sent forces to pacify Koshi and the East, prevented an uncle's plot to overthrow him, built many ships, acquired the Imperial Regalia from Izumo and was the first Emperor to collect taxes. He married (first) Tōtsu no Ayume Mekuhashibime, daughter of Ki no Arakahatobe, Miyatsuko of Ki Province. He married (second) Owari no Ōamahime, also called Yasakafuruamairohe, ancestor of the Muraji of Ōri. He married (third) his first cousin, Mimatsuhime no Mikoto, Empress, daughter of Ōbiko no Mikoto.  He died at the age of 168 (Kojiki) or 120 (Nihonshoki) years and was buried in a Kofun in Yamato on Yamanobe Road. He had issue:

Suinen Ikume Iribikoisachi no Mikoto, Eleventh Emperor of Japan and Great King of Yamato. He ruled from the Palace of Tamakaki in Shiki or Makimuku. His reign was the first in which Japan interacted with Korea, befriending northern states but making an enemy of the Southern kingdom of Silla. He dispatched an envoy to retrieve an orange of eternal life from the West, but he died before the envoy returned. He married (first) his first cousin Sahobime, also called Sahajihime no Mikoto, Empress, daughter of Hikoimasu no Miko, she was called on by her brother Sahobiko to assassinate Suinen, but could not bring herself to do the deed, and revealed the conspiracy; she could not bring herself to abandon her brother, either, went with him while he was beseiged and was killed by Suinen (see above). After his first wife's death, he married (second) Hibasuhime no Mikoto, Empress, daughter of Tatatsumichi no Ushi no Miko, Prince of Taniwa, and descendant of Kaika, Ninth Emperor of Japan (see above) she was buried at Terama near Saki and the first to be buried in a stone-coffin. He married (third) Nubata no Iribime no Mikoto, sister of his second wife. He married (fourth) Azami no Iribime, sister of the previous wives. He married (fifth) Kaguyahime no Mikoto, daughter of Ōtsutsukitarine no Miko, and descendant of Kaika, Ninth Emperor of Japan (see above). He married (sixth) Karibatatobe, daughter of Fuchi from Ōkuni in Yamashiro. He married (seventh) Otokaribatatobe, sister of his sixth wife. He died at the age of 153 years and was buried at Mitachi in Sugahara. He had issue:
