1) Fātimah bint al Khaṭṭāb al-`Adī, married Sa`īd ibn Zayd al-`Adī, a great-grandson of Nufayl ibn `Abd il-`Uzzā al-`Adī. Their conversion to Islam was the impetus for `Umar's.
634 - 644 Abū Ḥafṣ `Umar al Faruq ibn al-Khaṭṭāb al-`Adī, Commander of the Faithful and Second Rashidun Caliph. Born 586 at Mecca. A merchant who, though initially extremely hostile to Islam became one of the Prophet's closest companions. He ensured the election of the First Rashidun Caliph and served as his Secretary (632-634) and his Chief Judge (632). He was designated by his predecessor as the Second Rashidun Caliph. He was the first to assume the title of Commander of the Faithful. It was during his reign that the nasceant Caliphate invaded Byzantium and Sassanid Persia. An able administrator, he established the bureaucracy of the Islamic state and had a reputation for incorruptablity and wisdom. He led the Hajj (pilgrimage) in 633 and every year between 635 and 644. He married (first) Zaynab bint Maz'ūn al-Jumahī. He married (second) (and divorced) Mulaykah bint Jarwal al-Khuzā'ī, who also married the genealogist Abūl-Jahim ibn Hudhayfah. He married (third) (and divorced) her sister Umm Kulthūm bint Jarwal al-Khuzā'ī. He married (fourth) (and divorced) Quraybah ibn Abī 'Umayyah al-Makhzūmī, who also married `Abd ur-Raḥmān ibn Abī Bakr at-Taymī, son of the First Rashidun Caliph. He married (fifth) Umm Ḥakīm ibn al-Hārith al-Makhzūmī. He married (sixth) Jamīlah Aws. He married (seventh) Umm Kulthūm bint 'Alī al-Hashemī, daughter of the Fourth Rashidun Caliph and Fātimah az-Zahra bint Muḥammad al-Hashemī, daughter of the Prophet; she later married Muḥammad, `Alī or Awn ibn `Abdallāh al-Hashemī, grandsons of the fourth Rashidun Caliph, who all died in 680 at the Battle of Karbela. He married (eighth) Luhayyah. He married (ninth) Fukayhah. He married (tenth) 'Ātikah bint Zayd who appears to have been the daughter of his first cousin and died in 656. He was attacked by Sassanian Persian sympathisers during the pilgrimage of 644 and died at Mecca. He had issue, including:
1) `Abdullāh ibn `Umar al-`Adī, (son of Zaynab). Born 614, An Islamic Warrior and narrator of Hadith; ocassionally proposed as a potential Caliph during the Second Fitna (680s-690s), he never made a bid and died in 693. He married Ṣafiyyah bint Abī `Ubayd ath-Thaqafī had issue:
a) Abd ur-Raḥmān ibn `Abdillāh al-`Adī
b) Waqid ibn `Abdillāh al-`Adī. He had issue:
i) `Abdullāh ibn Waqid al-`Adī
c) Naṣir ibn `Abdillāh al-`Adī. According to Christopher Buyers of Royalark.net he was claimed as an ancestor by the Amir-i Paigah Family, Prime Ministers of Hyderabad State.
d) Salim ibn `Abdillāh al-`Adī. A Narrator of Hadith.
2) `Ubaydullāh ibn `Umar al-`Adī, (son of Mulaykah). He fought for the Fourth Rashidun Caliph and died 657.
3) Abd ur-Raḥmān ibn `Umar al-`Adī (son of Zaynab).
4) Zayd ibn `Umar al-`Adī, (son of Umm Kulthum bint Jarwal).
5) `Āsim ibn `Umar al-`Adī, (son of Jamīlah). A Narrator of Hadith. He had issue:
a) Ḥafṣ ibn `Āsim al-`Adī. A Narrator of Hadith. He had issue:
i) `Umar ibn Ḥafṣ al-`Adī. He had issue:
(1) `Ubaydullāh ibn `Umar al-`Adī.
b) `Umar ibn `Āsim al-`Adī. He had issue:
i) Umm Miskin bint `Umar al-`Adī.
c) `Ubaydullāh ibn `Āsim al-`Adī. He had issue:
i) `Āsim ibn `Ubaydillāh al-`Adī. A Narrator of Hadith.
a) Umm `Āsim bint `Āsim al-`Adī. She married Abd ul-`Azīz ibn Marwān al-'Umawī, Governor of Egypt (685-705) and had issue - see UMAYYAD 3
6) Zayd Ibnul Khalifatayn ibn `Umar al-`Adī, (son of Umm Kulthum bint `Alī).
7) Abd ur-Raḥmān ibn `Umar al-`Adī, (son of Luhayyah)
1) Ḥafṣah bint `Umar al-`Adī (daughter of Zaynab). She married (first) Khunays ibn Hudhayfah as-Sahmi, an Islamic Warrior, who died in 625 at the Battle of Uhud. She married (second) the Prophet.
2) Fātimah bint `Umar al-`Adī (daughter of Umm Hakim).
3) Ruqayyah bint `Umar al-`Adī (daughter of Umm Kulthum bint `Alī).
4) Zaynab bint `Umar al-`Adī (daughter of Fukayhah)
