HISTORIC DYNASTIES OF THE WORLD

Welcome to Historic Dynasties of the world, a website dedicated to the genealogies of pre-modern ruling families of Asia, Africa and the Americas!

The genealogies of European dynasties and early modern dynasties around the world are well represented on the internet, but as one goes back in time, the information for dynasties outside Europe becomes scant. This dearth is not justified as many of these dynasties have left a wealth of information, little of which has found its way onto the web. With this site I hope to move some distance towards rectifying that deficiency. I have endeavoured to use primary sources where possible, but I am not a polyglot and have had to rely on translations where such exist and secondary scholarly works where they do not. This site does not use wikipedia or similar general reference websites as a source, because I don't really want to duplicate material that is already well established on the internet. I do draw images from the Wikimedia Commons, however, because a website without pictures is a bit dull.

THE DYNASTIES

The dynasties are sorted into regions and arranged chronologically within these. This is a good system for historically unified places like China, a bad system for less unified places, like India and a terrible one for vague regions like "Eurasian Steppe." Once I have a better idea of how much information will be contained within this site I hope to revise it.
