As we prepare for the beginning of the Tour duh Hash, we’d like to take a step back and look at our humble beginnings. Not just for the Tour, but for every kennel in the Tour. Do you know

how any particular kennel got started? Was White House started by some White House staffers and interns? Did Mount Vernon start IN Mount Vernon? Why did Everyday Is Wednesday decide to hash on Thursday and why only start at metro stations? Baltimore/Annapolis… Harriers & Harriettes… Over The Hump… Hillbilly, Hangover, Charm City, the list goes on and on.

Where did any kennel come from? Over the Hump begat So Happy It’s Tuesday, but where Did Over the Hump come from? Who’s on first and What’s on second? You may know that the DC Men’s Hash was the first in existence in the DC Area, but who was next? Followed by? And then… and then… and then?

So for this - the 15th running of “The Tour” - we propose that we bring back as many of the hash alumni that each kennel can find. Break out your old phone and email lists and ancient scrolls and contact those old-timers. Invite them to trail during Tour. Wear your old shirts, hats, socks and other Hab. For each leg of the Tour, we will ask the host kennel(s) to tell the story of how they got started and how they have evolved. Maybe invite the old timers to share their stories and ancient violations and maybe sing a song or two that we may have forgotten.

So Happy It’s Tuesday will be celebrating their 1000th trail during Tour!! They’ll be re-running what was, for the most part, their second trail ever. This time they’ll get it right!! And they’ll have lots of stories to share.

The DC Area is filled with special hash events. Camping weekends, Ski Trips, the Red Dress Run, Hash-a-Thons, Full mQQns, etc that have maintained existence for years and other ideas that are due for a comeback (i.e. Hash Olympdics) It doesn’t matter if you can’t make every single leg of the Tour. Simply come out for the ones you can make and run a hot trail, drink cold beer, see many old friends, meet new ones, start new traditions and re-live old ones.
