When we step back and remind ourselves that we are not the only ones in the world who need to be heard, we can use the strength of our own difficult narratives to give space to others who need to resist against those who will bring them down. I can't stand by while Benjamin gets five sets of garments and three hundred pieces of silver while the rest of the brothers get peanuts. I won't let Benjamin learn the same practices.
The past few days in Israel have been challenging, and I am sure the next few weeks will be too. While I struggle day in and day out with the future of this region: the possibility of peace, potential solutions, nuance, dialogue, responsibility, and my place in everything... there is one thing i can be sure of: whatever your "blood" may be, be it your best friend, family, passion, peoplehood, come out of your box, reveal yourself, and find your other siblings that need your attention.
