I also understand that there are an overwhelming number of sexist, as well as many other, issues in the Torah and it often seems easy to reject the Torah in its entirety rather than struggling with the many problems we face in its readings. I hope to find a way to work with these difficulties to find a greater sense of Jewish identity and connection to the Jewish people as a whole by creating my own sense of ownership over the Torah and its teachings.
In Habonim we teach one another to work towards a better society and a better world. That devotion to an improved human existence is just as much necessary as an outward projection as an inward reflection. We must be challenging ourselves to find meaning in the Torah that connects all Jews to one another that goes beyond what is obviously given to us in our weekly Torah portion. It is just to disagree with your education, otherwise how will we be able to take ownership over its teachings and work towards creating a more well rounded education for future generations. Continue to question, relentlessly challenge, and never stop working towards a more just world that we all believe in.
