Greetings from the Tavor Torah Study Group! After waking with the sun and fulfilling our chalutzic dream of labor, we came together as our Torah group one final time. Ah, parting is such sweet sorrow. This week’s parsha is called Re’eh, and in it, Moshe gives his final speech to the Jews before they cross into the holey land. Get it, ‘cause there are a lot of holes?!
Anyway, the entire text of this Torah portion is Moses talking to the Jews. This is his last chance to impart wisdom before relinquishing control and parting with his crew. Meanwhile, the Jews looked upon the holy land, each of them thinking to themselves, "I think I'm gonna like it here." For a more complete summary, check out this week's GodCast!
What really interests us here at Temple Beth Tavor is Moses's insistence on having his one last word. Or really, many last words. As madrichim, as the end of the summer creeps closer and closer, we often feel the need to fit in as much wisdom as possible into our last few moments with our chanichim and ourselves. It's easy to think that our chanichim won't make the best decisions without us looking over their shoulders and guiding them. But true leadership and true hadricha is being able to trust that others will do well without us micromanaging.
What we teach in Habonim Dror remains relevant throughout the year whether we see it or whether we don't. Machaneh's awesome. We're awesome.Everything is awesome.
Whoop Whoop Whoop!
Tzevet Tavor 2k15 (The Wow Butter Warriors)
Baruch v'Hagshem
P.S. One of the commandments in this parsha is that 10% of your produce should be eaten in Jerusalem or sold to make money that will be spent on food to be eaten in Jerusalem. Therefore, we recommend that every tzevet seriously considers using ten bucks of your kupah to donate $10 to the Workshop 65ers (who will be the best workshoppers ever, obviously) so they can eat in Jerusalem.
P.P.S. Shabbat shalom!
