interesting is how SR Hirsch reads this oft-read line. He says “From this we learn a momentous truth: [Israel’s] possession of the Land can be called into question at any time, and the Jewish state must take possession of the Land ever anew through the full realization of justice.” Let us reflect this Shabbat on what perspectives shape the way we look at the world, on what constitutes a leader, and on what it means to take possession of Israel through justice instead of oppression.
